A place called home

Round 10: Days 46-50

Vivienne has graduated from Suffolk University and has moved into her fiancé Joseph's townhouse in her hometown of Sullivan.

When she returned home from college, Vivienne was eager to find employment in her chosen field of journalism. She couldn't find a single position though and took a bit part in a soap opera instead.

Me and you

Round 10: Days 46-50

Xanthia loves all things scientific but is finding there's not much she can do with her hobby in her tiny little townhouse - definitely no space for a telescope! Instead, she stargazes the lo-fi way - on the ground, in her pyjamas.

She can't laze around all night though. She's up bright and early the next morning for her job at the architecture firm. The nanny, for some reason, hasn't turned up. She desperately knocks on all her neighbours' doors hoping for an emergency babysitter, but to no avail. She had to use one of her vacation days instead.

Husband Stan gets home and meets new neighbour Vivienne. She's not interested in making nice, apparently.

Meanwhile, Araminta is bonding with Mummy upstairs.

No nanny issues the next day. Stan has been promoted to Protector of Whales and works only Monday through Wednesday and much more decent hours too. So he has lots of time to spent with his daughter, and even gets to hear her say her first word.

Since Alexandra left the adjacent townhouse vacant, Noelle Harvey the homewrecker has moved in. Probably a good thing that ACR in this lot is set to spouse only - these two are BFFs and have two bolts so it would only be a matter of time.

Little Araminta is a bit of a handful. She can often be found in the closet - she drags her toy drums in there and bangs away. Lucky there are no neighbours on that side!

Xanthia would really love a large family. Stan's happy to do whatever Xanthia wants, as long as they stay together. So they've been trying for another baby but have so far been unsuccessful.

They might end up having to be content with Araminta being an only child.

It wouldn't be the end of the world if that was the case. Araminta is a really sweet child.

She is doted on by grandmother Gina. Gina often drops by unannounced to spend time with her granddaughter.

Vivienne: still a bitch, apparently.

My only concession to Christmas in my game - Stan got an MP3 player and Xanthia got a new cellphone.

Araminta aged to child on Day 50, and did nothing except change clothes and such. So here she is.

  • It took Xanthia four days (so four years Sim time) to fall pregnant with Araminta and it looks like she's having similar trouble falling pregnant with a second. I sometimes use the Fertility Treatment option with Inteen for Sims like this but as with almost everything in my game, I have a couple of rules set up for myself: a) The female Sim must be at least 35 years of age (Xanthia is 36, I believe but I'll have to double check) and b) The couple must have tried unsuccessfully at least 3 times.
  • Stan and Xanthia tried twice this round. If they don't try themselves next round, I'll assume they've given up. If they do, and are unsuccessful, Xanthia will get the fertility treatment. If she is successful, everyone's happy!

Wish you well

Lukas and Raffaella have taken in Lukas's younger half-sister, Alexandra, after the recent death of Kristina.
Lukas was happy to invite Alexandra into his home after their mother died but he wished it could have been under happier circumstances. Not only had Alexandra moved in after a tragedy but she was also very sick herself.

Due to the illness, Alexandra had to spend most of her time in the bedroom she shared with Magdalena. It left her with little else to do but think about how much she missed her mother.

When she wasn't coughing up a lung, that is.

Late on Thursday night, Alexandra woke up with the worst coughing yet, so severe she felt like she was choking.

Unfortunately, it was more than her frail body could handle and she passed away. Her cat, Homer, was very upset. He'd been her constant companion since she was a baby.

Lukas took Alexandra's death very hard. She was still so young and he wished there was something more he could have done to save her.

Lukas and Raffaella had to stay functional for baby Magdalena so they couldn't grieve the way they wanted to.

Neither Lukas or Raff were sure they wanted another baby before they tried for Magdalena but they are so glad they did. She's been a constant source of joy for the family in such a difficult time.

Augustin is a lot older now which means he'll be leaving the house soon, whether to go to college or enter the workforce. Until then, he'll help out with Magdalena, try to earn some scholarships and maybe find a girlfriend.

  • I almost had someone plead for Alexandra but decided not to in the end. There's a major girl overload in her age group anyway. Which is a rather calculating way to decide whether someone should die or not, now that I think of it. I'm thinking of making a no-pleading rule for myself but I know I'd end up breaking it sooner or later, so I'll just say I'll try to avoid pleading.
  • I thought Alexandra was better right before she died. I didn't get a pop-up telling me she was healthy again but the "Show Plague Info" thing had disappeared from the Lot Debugger. Her grades had slipped to a C+ and I was actually planning on sending her to school the next day!
  • Augustin was either at school, studying skills (kid's a machine and always has the want to skill) or sleeping when everything happened this round, which is why you don't seem him at all to the end. He grew up on the very last day, so Augustin's teen days won't really start 'till next round.

You don't know me

Round 10: Days 46-50

Justina was eager to invite her son and daughter, Charlton and Collette, home for lunch this weekend. She headed off to Sullivan Creek to catch some fresh fish for the meal.

She ended up being very successful and caught several fish. She had a great recipe she found online and planned to test it out on Cedric and Ben for dinner.

Not quite as successful - Justina burnt the fish to a crisp.

Saturday afternoon and Charlton has made his entrance. Collette was a little more polite and waited to be invited in first.

Justina's brother Lukas happened to be passing by too and Cedric invited him in. Naturally, the Nihills are all concerned about Alexandra's recent illness. She hasn't been doing very well at all and Lukas could use a break from caring for her.

Ben is blissfully unaware of his aunt's illness. Instead, he besieges Charlton with questions about the campus gym almost as soon as his big brother steps through the door.

Ben and Collette were never as close as the boys were but Ben's pleased to have his big sister back home for a little while anyway.

On the whole, the lunch is a success. Lukas has some time off from the stress at home for a while and Charlton and Collette get a good, home-cooked meal into their bellies. It beats burnt mac and cheese at the dorm cafeteria anyway.

Once everyone leaves, Ben continues doing what he normally does in his spare time - dancing. If he keeps it up, he should be able to get the Tsang Footwork scholarship before he heads off to college.

Which won't be very far away now. Ben's not sure if he even wants to go to college yet but he's doing pretty well on the scholarship front anyway.

  • Sigh. I miss Charlton and Collette living at home. I think the rest of the family does too, because they constantly have wants to call them at chat.
  • All Justina ever wants to do is fish (she's only ever fished on vacation), so I finally took her down to the Creek. Now she's driving me nuts with wants to catch a Golden Trout. Argh!

Round 10: Days 46-50

Leontine has graduated college and moved into boyfriend Brandon's family farm.

While Leontine is tending the apple trees one afternoon, Brandon surprises her with a proposal.

Get it back

Round 10: Days 46-50
On Thursday afternoon, the Morettis' farmhouse was once again filled with children.

It was the last time, because the Moretti kids were growing up. Arianna and Caterina became teens the same night.

It's been a long time since Simona was a teenager herself.

But along with her daughters, she proves she can still smustle with the best of them.

Filippo is a very solitary child, spending most of his time with his RC car.

Well, if not his building blocks.

The girls head off to A Lost Generation on Saturday afternoon and Caterina gets pretty friendly with townie Elmer.

Younger brother Filippo might want to tag along next time too. He's a teen now and old enough to get in.

  • Very blah update, because I was getting some major bugginess with this family. Not only was the home lot lagging badly but I was getting a jump bug with Caterina. So I spent most of my time trying to fix that and not enough taking pictures.
  • At the end of this round, I'm planning on shortening my teen life span to 8 days (inspired by Laura), even though I do really enjoy teens. Not only will it be more realistic because it corresponds to real ages but it will also make it easier for me to pair people up because they'll grow up much faster. I won't be changing my round lengths though, so I'll be sending larger groups of kids at at a time to college.

Round 9: College
(Georgette, Vivienne and Leontine)

Vivienne was really eager to graduate in her Junior and Senior years of university. Even her socialising was done with her grades in mind.

Much of Leontine's social life was still being spent fielding phone calls (several times daily) from ex-boyfriend Charlton. Leontine is beginning to worry this would never end. Charlton knows about Brandon, Leontine knows about Aphrodite. There's no reason for them to have to speak as often as this.
